The U.S. Navy is Using Social Media

by Roxanne Darling on August 13, 2009

Here is a brief late night interview with Public Affairs Officer Jason Salata (who manages the @USS_Nimitz twitter account) talking about how the U.S. Navy has jumped into social media in the past several months. Shane and I filmed this while on board the USS Nimitz, over “Mid Rats” aka midnight rations. The scrambled egg sandwiches were ono-licious!

My friend and colleague Nathan Kam also took one of these trips to the USS Nimitz, and he posted this video of Admiral Miller talking about social media that is interesting too.

P.S. I heard directly from a Marine Corps source that they have NOT banned use of FB, Twitter, etc – only blocked access to those sites on the secure networks. Granted, it limits participation by many Marines on the job, but is not an actual ban as has been widely mis-reported.
