Opportunity
As an experienced firm, Marshall Design Studio had lived through many website iterations. Our current challenge: how to communicate their sophisticated, large-scale work without inundating the site visitor with pages full of words? How to let the photos "do the talking" while still balancing the demands of search optimization for real words on the page? How to create a site that looks and performs beautifully on a desktop computer as well as various mobile platforms?
The other element to communicate was Marshall's warm, contemporary, minimalist design approach. We chose a largely white-based site, with large format color photography, and richly detailed portfolio pages. Fortunately, they have an excellent library of photographic documentation, including some of the best 'Before and After' shots I've ever seen.
One of our favorite elements is the slider on each project that allows the visitor to virtually stand in the room and witness the transformation in design. Be sure to check those out on any of the Portfolio project pages.
As a side note, it is a thrill for me to work with a client who deeply appreciates artful nuance, balance, and attention to detail. Those qualities are not always essential to the project. When they are, it is very satisfying to 'meet the mark' and deliver the results to a very appreciative client!
2025 UPDATE:
A whole new site! The client asked how she could reduce her annual website coast. Since she was initially on WordPress, we recommend our Quarterly Support Package which enables me to do daily checks, 24/7/365 on her site, updating the WordPress software and installed plug-ins. WP is one of the most popular website platforms! But as such, it is subject to chronic attacks from spammers and hackers. The daily checks and updates are necessary to prevent them. But things change over time, and we decided it would save money, deliver a more sophisticated design, plus she could take advantage of the security and hosting Squarespace (SS) provides. We were also able to move her domain registration to SS, so it's all in one place for a much lower annual fee. I was able to move all her content over to SS and now she has a beautiful, updated site that saves money and is easier to manage.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
is an interior design firm with offices on Maui and O‘ahu, owned by Jane and Gary Marshall. Jane has been a professional interior designer for more than 30 years. She has worked as a designer with architectural firms in New York City, Honolulu, San Francisco and Marin County, California. Gary has been a licensed architect for more than 40 years, working in Honolulu, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, and London.
